How Artificial Intelligence is Transforming the Way We Communicate, Inform Ourselves, and Interpret Reality
Today, at Sapienza University of Rome, a meeting was held focused on the relationship between artificial intelligence, information, and communication, as part of the Disclaimer project, promoted by Corriere della Sera in collaboration with CINECA. The event provided a discussion on how new technologies are transforming dissemination, communication, journalism, and the responsibilities of those who report on the world.
Valeria Sandei, CEO of Almawave, participated in the discussion, emphasizing: “We are witnessing a debate on artificial intelligence, on how much it will transform our lives, and on how it actually works when applied to complex organizations. AI is an extraordinary technology that finds its true purpose in concrete applications.
A few weeks ago, we released the latest two models of the Velvet family: they have 25 billion parameters and cover 24 languages, including all major European languages, with advanced reasoning capabilities and particular attention to data quality and bias management. These models were trained in Italy by Almawave, a fully Italian-owned company, in compliance with the European regulatory framework. The real value of these models lies primarily in their practical applications.”
She adds: “It is often thought that simply scaling up models improves their performance. I believe, however, that with the models currently available and the functionalities already active or planned, great things can be achieved within organizations.”
Sandei concludes: “From the perspective of European digital sovereignty, each company is free to choose which AI model to adopt, and whether to prefer one developed in the EU and designed with an Italian and European cultural framework. In the next three years, significant results can be achieved, because regarding the implementation of these technologies, use cases, and sector transformation, we have solid foundations and are ready to take on our challenge.”
