Valeria Sandei among the protagonists of the Sustainable Economic Forum
16 April 2025
At the Sustainable Economic Forum, the international event promoted by Confindustria, the San Patrignano Community, and co-founder Letizia Moratti, CEO Valeria Sandei took the stage.
At the forum, moderated by Daniele Bellasio, Deputy Editor of Il Sole 24 Ore, Sandei emphasized how Artificial Intelligence is currently one of the main drivers of innovation at a global level. A set of concrete technologies and approaches that are already profoundly transforming numerous sectors of our society.
Among these, the water sector holds enormous potential: just think that around 40% of resources are still being wasted. Artificial intelligence can make a decisive contribution to reducing this waste, both in Italy and internationally.
Another significant example is tourism, where AI enables improved interaction with visitors, personalized messaging, and more effective data analysis, added Sandei, speaking at the “Innovation” panel, which also featured Anna Maria Bernini, Sergio Abrignani (Professor of General Pathology, University of Milan), Tommaso Calarco (Professor of Quantum Computing, University of Bologna), Francesco De Santis (Vice President for Research and Development, Confindustria), Giovanni Fassio (Director, The New York Climate Exchange), and Antonio Zoccoli.
There are countless possible applications. What truly matters is recognizing that investing in technology – particularly in foundational, enabling technologies – is a strategic choice. The technological challenge has just begun, and if we are able to fully seize its opportunities, also through a sustainability lens, we can play a leading role, generating value for our country and for the entire European context.
