27 September 2024
The winners of the third edition of the Prêmio Excelência Turística Destino Digital – Brasil 2024 by The Data Appeal Company, an Almawave Group company, were announced at ABAV Expo 2024. The award was given to Brazilian destinations that have distinguished themselves in the area of sustainability. Our Destination Sustainability Index makes it possible to measure the environmental sphere, economic aspects, society and governance of any destination, and not only helps destinations identify areas for improvement, but also guides them in implementing effective strategies to improve overall sustainability and attractiveness for visitors.
The winners for 2024 are:
- Amazonas – Environmental Pillar Winner
- Mato Grosso – Economic & Overtourism Pillar Winner
- Paraná – Governance & Destination Management Pillar Winner
- São Paulo – Social Cultural Pillar Winner
- Distrito Federal, Brasília – Overall Sustainability Winner
These destinations were awarded for their innovative practices in environmental protection, effective management of tourism pressures, and socio-cultural inclusion. São Paulo, in particular, was highlighted for its leadership in urban sustainability.
During the awards ceremony, Emilio José Inés Villar, Destinations Market Lead of The Data Appeal Company – Almawave Group, commented, “Although Brazilian tourism is recovering more slowly according to the traditional metric of visitor numbers, it has already far surpassed pre-pandemic levels in other areas, such as tourism income. This reflects a positive change in the tourism development model, representing a tremendous opportunity for the country. Our Destination Sustainability Index shows that all indicators related to sustainability are on the rise, positioning Brazil as a key player in the tourism of the future. Quality, sustainable and responsible tourism, where travelers and residents coexist in harmony, contributing together to the country’s development.”
