CLIC-IT 2025: Almawave participates in the Eleventh Italian Conference on Computational Linguistics
17 September 2025
From September 24 to 26, the eleventh edition of the Italian Conference on Computational Linguistics (CLiC-it) will be held in Cagliari. The event is a key forum for the Italian research community in the fields of Computational Linguistics (CL) and Natural Language Processing (NLP). Its goal is to promote and disseminate high-quality original research exploring various aspects of automatic language processing, both written and spoken.
Giancarlo Xompero, Machine Learning Engineer at Almawave, will present the scientific paper “Protecting the Privacy in Velvet with Model Editing”, co-authored with Raniero Romagnoli, Almawave CTO, Cristina Giannone, Lead AI Engineer, Fabio Massimo Zanzotto, Senior Research Scientist at Almawave and Associate Professor at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, and Elena Sofia Ruzzetti, Researcher/PhD Student at the University of Rome Tor Vergata.
The paper illustrates how LLMs often tend to memorize a large amount of information, including personal and identifying data, which can be reproduced during inference, thereby exposing users to privacy risks. To address this issue, Model Editing techniques have recently been applied, enabling direct modification of LLM parameters to prevent the dissemination of sensitive information without compromising their generative capabilities.
This work presents an application of Model Editing to support privacy protection, focusing on Italian-language data within Velvet, our family of LLMs entirely developed in Italy.
