From December 4 to 6 in Pisa, the Tenth Anniversary of the Italian Conference on Computational Linguistics, CLiC-it, will take place. This event is a key gathering for the Italian research community in the fields of Computational Linguistics (CL) and Natural Language Processing (NLP). The conference aims to promote and disseminate high-quality original research exploring various aspects of automatic language processing, both written and spoken.

Cristina Giannone, Lead AI Engineer at Almawave, will present the scientific paper “Multimodal Attention is All You Need” during the conference, co-authored with Marco Saioni from Marconi University.

The paper introduces a multimodal model for fake news classification, whose main feature is the use of the cross-attention mechanism. This mechanism effectively combines textual and visual content from a news item, enabling simultaneous focus on the relevant aspects of the data extracted from both sources.

The model was tested using the MULTI-Fake-DetectiVE dataset provided by Evalita 2023, achieving results that outperformed those of the winning model in the challenge.
