Yesterday in Bari, the event “Almaviva and Almawave in Puglia: Digital Innovation Supporting Public Administration and Healthcare” took place, where experts presented the results of OncologIA, an industrial research and experimental development project led by Almaviva Digitaltec and Almawave. Co-financed by the Apulia Region, the project applies innovative IT technologies in the field of oncology.

We are very proud to have pioneered the OncologIA project here in Puglia, which falls within the productive research field of applying artificial intelligence algorithms to cancer diagnosis and treatment. Artificial intelligence presents us with many challenges because it requires a new approach to healthcare. Public healthcare institutions, whose primary mission is patient care, must learn to collaborate with private companies, which are more oriented towards research and experimentation, to jointly develop new diagnostic and treatment tools. Similarly, doctors must engage and interact with professionals from other fields, such as engineers, data managers, and IT specialists, to tackle the extremely complex issue of using patient health data while ensuring their privacy. The goal for everyone is to improve patient care and their clinical history management, working together to find better ways to treat illnesses and, if possible, predict or prevent them,” stated Alessandro Delle Donne, General Director of the Giovanni Paolo II IRCCS in Bari.

During the event, the outcomes of recent investments in the Apulia region were also presented. It provided a platform for dialogue with institutions actively engaged in the digital transformation of their organizations.

We are embarking on a journey toward the future, built on two fundamental pillars: knowledge and technology. Today, we had the opportunity to delve into the OncologIA project, which stems from this valuable expertise and combines the most advanced technological solutions to improve care pathways and create new services, addressing the needs of all: citizens, individuals, and patients. We are confident that the results achieved, the skills acquired, and our innovative technologies will translate into useful services capable of placing technology at the service of the region and collective well-being,” commented Valeria Sandei, CEO of Almawave.

The Almaviva Group announced an investment program in Puglia that, over the coming years, will focus on strategic sectors such as water management, healthcare, e-government, and tourism.
